The Karma Sutra
was given to us almost two millennia ago and still invokes much moral
debate. Written in India by Vatsyayana, a religious student
about whom very little is known, the work is seen most often today as a
picture book of sexual positions. In its original form this list of
sexual positions formed part of one of the thirty five chapters. The
work was written as a complete technical guide to sensual pleasure.
In our western society we believe we are continually pushing the
boundaries of acceptance and moral judgement yet here is a text written
by an historic culture which we deem pornographic and unsuitable for
minors. We all know the unbreakable connection between the physical and
spiritual awakenings within us, with sexual pleasure only reaching its
true glory when the mind is fully engaged.
